It’s time to share the FREE and CHEAP weekend activities for August! These fun family activities are either FREE or super cheap…and they are at the stores that we all know and love 🙂

Tampa Museum of Art – Fun and free art crafts called the “Art Spot” every Saturday from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm. – Thanks Janel!

Saturday, August 6, at 11 a.m. – Storytime and Activities featuring Dinosaurs Love Underpants & Aliens Love Dinopants
Join us for a wacky celebration of underpants from the bestselling author/illustrator team of Dinosaurs Love Underpants and Aliens Love Dinopants, Claire Freedman and Ben Cort. Coloring and activities to follow.
Saturday, August 13, at 11 a.m. – Milk Goes to School Storytime
Join Milk on her journey through the first day of school and making new friends. Young readers will learn valuable lessons in Storytime featuring the back-to-school must-have picture book this year, Milk Goes to School. Activities to follow.
Saturday, August 13, stores select Event Time. – Vinyl Day Celebration
It’s Vinyl Day at Barnes & Noble! As the premiere destination for all things vinyl – records, turntables, storage, magazines and more – customers will experience our expanded selection, exclusives, special offers, early releases and enjoy music-themed activities. #BNVinylDay
Saturday, August 20, at 11 a.m. – Mira Forecasts the Future & The Bot that Scott Built Storytime
Prepare your beakers for a science-filled Storytime with featured books Mira Forecasts the Future and The Bot That Scott Built! Whether it is forecasting the weather or building a robot, these stories will educate and inspire young readers about science and its helpful effects. Coloring and activities to follow.
Saturday, August 20, 4pm. – LEGO Build Event
Kids ages 6 and up are invited to join us for an exciting LEGO Build event. In this fun-filled, team-building activity, participants will get to explore their creativity through collaboration with others.
Saturday, August 27, at 11 a.m. Summer Reading Triathlon Closing Ceremony
Join us for the Closing Ceremony of our Summer Reading Triathlon. Kids have been voting for their Favorite Hero and Place in books all summer. Voting closes on Sunday, 8/21, and we will announce the local and national medal winners at this event. At the Closing Ceremony, kids will enjoy activities and get a reward for their excellence in reading over the summer. #BNSummerReading
The Summer Reading free book program will continue through Tuesday, 9/6. Kids in Grades 1-6, come in and fill out a Summer Reading Journal and earn a free book.
Lowe’s – All events are recommended for ages 5 and up
Saturday August 13th – 10:00 am Marvel’s Avengers are back at a Lowe’s near you this weekend! Bring your child to Lowe’s to build their very own Black Widow! And don’t forget to watch Marvel’s Avengers: Ultron Revolution Sunday mornings on Disney XD!

Saturday, August 6th – 9:00 am – 12:00 pm – Join the hands-on workshop and you and your child can build a rolling skateboard pencil case just in time for back to school. Once the pencil box is built, your child can decorate it with The Home Depot stickers.
*All kid get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
Michael’s – It looks like Michael’s did some changes to their Kids Corner. The crafts are $2 per child and it reserves 30 minutes for your creative kid. Sessions starting every half hour from 10:30AM – 11:30AM. You also have to log in and create an account to see each activity.
Now, remember one of the biggest expenses that are incurred while we are “out and about” are eating expenses. So, if you are going to eat out – try to plan on eating out for lunch. Lunch menus are always cheaper than dinner menus.
Make sure you pack snacks – you and the kids! I always have a Balance Bar in my truck for me and a few goodies in my purse for the kiddos.
